Allan Wells MBE
Allan Wells MBE is Scotland’s most successful Commonwealth athlete and a former Olympic sprinter, most famously known for winning the 100m Olympic title at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Wells also had a hugely successful Commonwealth career, winning two Golds and a Silver medal at the Edmonton 1978 Games and two Golds and a Bronze at the Brisbane 1982 Commonwealth Games.
 Monica Dzonzi
UNICEF Youth Ambassador Monica Dzonzi from Malawi Monica Dzonzi, a former child labourer, funded her way through education after the death of her father left her family in financial difficulty. Today, Monica is a coordinator at a youth centre in Malawi where she teaches other young people IT skills.
 Caitlin McClatchey
Caitlin McClatchey made her Olympic bow as a 19-year old, helping the British 4x200m Freestyle Relay quartet to 5th place at Athens 2004. A year later, McClatchey was a World Championship medallist, scoring 400m Freestyle bronze in Montreal, 29 years after her uncle Alan McClatchey won Olympic 4x200m Freestyle Relay bronze in the same city. McClatchey's stock continued to rise in 2006 as she swept to double Commonwealth gold in Melbourne as well as 400m Freestyle bronze at the European Championships in Budapest. She was a finalist at London 2012 in the 200m freestyle.
 Daniel Purvis
Daniel Purvis has won three consecutive national all-around titles and was ranked number one in the world across all apparatus in 2011.At the 2012 London 2012 Olympics, Purvis won bronze in the gymnastics artistic team with Sam Oldham, Louis Smith, Kristian Thomas and Max Whitlock. Daniel’s gymnastics idol is London 2012 rival KoheiUchimura ‘because he makes gymnastics look easy’. His most recent event was the 2013 World Gymnastics Championships where he qualified for the individual all-around final and the floor final.
 Cara Kennedy
Cara Kennedy is currently a member of the Glasgow 2014 Scottish Gymnastics performance squad and has already gained 2 scores needed for qualification for the Games. Cara's achievements so far include being a member of Team Scotland who finished 4th at the Commonwealth Youth Games 2011 and a bronze medal on the beam at the Northern European Championships 2012. Cara is a 5th year pupil at the Glasgow School of Sport.
 Morgan McKinnon
Morgan McKinnon’s athletics career has progressed during her time at the Glasgow School of Sport. Initially she competed in multi-events and sprint hurdles. However, as she matured it became clear that horizontal jumping might be her forte. In 2013 she won the Scottish Schools Triple Jump title and as selected to represent the Scottish Schools in the British Schools international. She also finished 6th in the Triple Jump in her first Scottish Senior championships aged just 17.
 Ruairi Kirkwood
Ruairi Kirkwoodjoined the Glasgow School of Sport in June 2012.In the past 16 months Ruairi has moved from being a District Level swimmer to competing at his first Scottish Age groups in April 2013, where he placed 4th in 4 different events. Ruairi was part of a Scottish Junior select team, who at the Edinburgh Grand Prix in May 2013, broke the 4 x 50m front crawl Scottish Junior Record by at least 7 seconds. He has recently been selected for the National Development Squad for 2013/14 and to represent Scotland at the UK School games in September 2013, this will be his first National Selections.
 Izzy Conway
Isobel ‘Izzy’ Conway, 55, was born and bred in the East End of Glasgow in the shadow of Celtic Park which will host the Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony. Izzy has been involved with Glasgow 2014 as a frontrunner Volunteer interviewer, interviewing potential volunteers for the Games from all backgrounds aged between 16 and into their 70s.
Through her role with Glasgow 2014, Izzy has embraced the spirit of the Games, offering her assistance at a number of events throughout the city in the build-up to the Games. Izzy describes herself as phenomenally proud and passionate about Glasgow and the fact that the Games are coming to her home city and is looking forward to saying, in the future: “I was there, I was part of that, I helped make it happen.”
 Aamir Mehmood
AamirMehmood, a pupil at Shawlands Academy, won a Scotland-wide schools competition to design the official tartan for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games consisting of all Glasgow 2014 brand colours. Aamir’s design incorporates blue, yellow, white and red, representing Scotland’s National colours. The large quantity of green highlights that 75% ofShawlands Academy is bilingual while the blue represents the 40 different languages which are spoken at Shawlands Academy.Aamir recently saw his design modelled by Glasgow 2014’s youngest ambassador, Tom Daley.
 Gregor Edmunds
Gregor Edmunds (born 1977) is a Scottish Highland Games competitor and Strongman. He has been the World Highland Games Champion and has also been Scotland's Strongest Man, and finished 2nd on two occasions at Britain's Strongest Man as well as competing successfully on the World's Strongest Man circuit. Edmunds (36) launched the official Glasgow 2014 Tartan at an event at Shawlands Academy, Glasgow, in April 2012.
 Julie McElroy
Julie McElroy has been involved in promoting the para-sport programme at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Julie, who has Cerebral Palsy, was told at birth that she would be consigned to life in a wheelchair. However, through her determination in the face of adversity, Julie leads an active life, embarking on mountain treks and trying her hand at every sport on the Glasgow 2014 Para-Sport programme, as featured on the Glasgow 2014 website.
 Beth Gilmour
Beth Gilmour, 13, from Cumbernauld in Scotland won the competition to design the Official Mascot for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The UK-wide competition, which ran on the BBC’s famous Blue Peter programme, attracted over 4,000 entries. Clyde was introduced to the world at an event at BBC Scotland in Glasgow last year. Following on from designing Clyde, Beth has been heavily involved in the journey to the Games. A keen swimmer, Beth has met a number of her sporting idols as a result of having designed Clyde including Rebecca Adlington, Michael Jamieson and Tom Daley.
 Clyde
Clyde, the friendly face of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, was introduced to the world in September 2012. In his first year, the cheeky thistle has met over 600,000 people getting excited for the Games. Included in that list of names is HRH Duchess of Cambridge and sporting superstars Sir Chris Hoy, Tom Daley and Nicola Adams. Clyde was designed by the then 12-year-old Beth Gilmour as part of a competition run by BBC Scotland in conjunction with Blue Peter. |
