KARACHI: Shabbir Iqbal on Sunday reasserted his status as Pakistan’s top professional when he bagged the CAS Open Golf Championship title here at the Airmen Golf Course, PAF Base (Korangi Creek).
Shabbir finished the championship ahead of his chief rivals Matloob Ahmed and Nadeem Inayat with a three-under par score. Waseem Rana clinched the amateur title with Sajid Khan and Ali Hai finishing second and third respectively.
Ghulam Nabi won the senior pro title ahead of Asghar Khan and Ghani Khan. Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, was the chief guest on the occasion and also awarded trophies and prizes to the winners.
More than 300 leading golfers from all over the country participated in the championship. The various categories of players participating in the championship included professionals, amateurs, veterans and seniors, juniors and ladies. The championship continued for four consecutive days and 18 holes were played each day. The CAS Open Golf Championship was introduced in 1977. |
