KARACHI: Pakistani squash players Yasir Butt and Arshad Iqbal fell in the first round of qualifying play of the JP Morgan Tournament of Champions in the first PSA World Series event of the year in New York.
Stephen Coppinger, world No30 from Cape Town, eliminated Yasir Butt in a hard-fought four-game battle. Coppinger recorded a 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10 triumph in 68 minutes.
French Gregoire Marche took only 27 minutes to brush aside Arshad Iqbal Burki, recording a convincing 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 victory. Aamir Atlas Khan, Pakistan’s top squash player, will be the only Pakistani representative in the main rounds of the prestigious event.
