KARACHI: Tayyaba Suleman of Islamia Club pulled off an upset when she stunned former national junior champion and current international Maleeha Khursheed of Essa Laboratory in the women’s singles quarter-final of the Karachi Table Tennis Championship at the Islamia Club on Thursday.
Tayyaba, sister of junior international Usman Ahmad, displayed fine skills, outwitting the seasoned campaigner 3-2 after a tough battle. The score remained 6-11, 14-12, 11-9, 9-11 and 11-9 in favour of Tayyaba. In another quarter-final, Qurrat-ul-Ain Zaidi from Sindh Sports Board got the better of Maryam Naz from Essa Laboratory 11-5, 11-7, 11-4. Farah Ilyas from Islamia Club crushed Halima Ali from Sindh Sports Board 11-3, 11-5, 11-6. Abeera Ali from SSB edged-out Zehra Bashir from Karachi Club 3-1 with the game scores being 10-12, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7. |
