KARACHI: Nowshera Zone and Karachi Zone B on Tuesday blasted their way into the quarter-finals of the National Under-14 Football Championship under progress at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.
Nowshera Zone edged past Balochistan 4-2 in their Group B game to qualify for the last eight with six points. They had defeated Gilgit-Baltistan 2-0 in their opener the other day. Umair struck twice while Wali Mohammad and Shah Wali netted one goal apiece for Nowshera Zone while Khali and Mir Waiz landed goals for Balochistan, which still have a chance to reach the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, in Group C tie Karachi Zone B overpowered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2-1 to make a cut for the quarter-finals. Rehan and Amir scored one goal apiece for Karachi Zone while for KP Danish hit a consolation goal in the 45th minute. Karachi Zone, which is supervised by AID-27 coach Hassan Baloch, had whacked Islamabad 1-0 in their opening match.
In another match, Islamabad dismantled Chaman Zone 3-0 with Ahsan, Shaharyar and Hassan scoring one goal apiece. Similarly, Lahore Zone held Gilgit-Baltistan to a 1-1 draw with Muzammil scoring for Lahore in the 15th minute while Sultan finding the net for Gilgit-Baltistan in the 21st minute. |
