KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned the top officials of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) and the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) on January 6 after the Sindh Handball Association filed a petition, requesting the court to issue a stay order against the SOA elections, scheduled for January 8, sources said.
They added that the petitioner has leveled allegations of corruption and violation of the Constitution on the top officials of the SOA. Sources said that the petitioner has alleged that in the last general body meeting on November 3, 2011, the issue of election was not discussed and till date its schedule is not properly circulated. The top officials of the SOA are holding the elections according to their whims, which should be stopped, says the petition, according to sources.
If a stay order is given, the POA elections, to be held on February 8, may also have to be postponed. An SOA official said that they have not received any notice, but since they have learnt of the summoning they would appear in the court. The official said they expect no stay order. “We have received 95 percent of nominations,” the official said. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association (POA) has announced elections on January 21. |
