KARACHI: Former national champion Muhammad Munir on Thursday reasserted his status as one of the top pros in the country when he overshadowed Pakistan number one Shabbir Iqbal by winning the Rashid D. Habib Golf Trophy at Karachi Golf Club.
Munir followed his superb second round score of 66 with yet another impressive card to win the title by one shot ahead of pre-tournament favourite Shabbir. Shabbir, also from Islamabad, started the final day of the three-day tournament with a one-shot lead but his four-under 68 in the third round fell short and it was Munir, who reigned supreme in the million-rupee event.
Making full use of excellent playing conditions at the well-manicured KGC course, Islamabad’s Munir fired six birdies in a bogey-free round to finish with an aggregate of 204 to take the top prize of Rs146,300.
He was followed by Shabbir on the leaderboard, who finished with 205 and received a prize of Rs98,420. The third position went to Nadeem Inayat of KGC (210) and he received Rs 56,002. Muhammad safdar finished fourth and was followed by Afsar Ali, Shahid Javed, Waheed baloch and Muhammad Nazir.
Aslam R. Khan, President Sindh Golf Association (SGA), Munsif Raza, Vice President KGC and Abbas D. Habib, CEO and Managing Director of Bank Al Habib, distributed trophies and cash prizes at a well-attended closing ceremony of the tournament which was sponsored by Bank Al Habib. |
