KARACHI: National Athletic Championship is going to be held in the city from April 12-14 at Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) center under the auspices of Pakistan Navy in collaboration with Sindh Athletic Association (SAA).
The championship was to be held in the mid of March but due to the Sindh games being held in the coming month the dates of the athletic championship have been moved forward.
It has been learnt that Secretary Pakistan Athletic Federation (PAF) Khalid Mehmood during his visit to the city a little while back discussed and reviewed the championship with the officials of PN and SAA.
President SAA Syed Zahid Ali Rizvi confirmed the new dates of the championship. He added that some initial measures have been taken regarding the championship. “It is the biggest event of athletics that is to be held in the city after a long time,” he said, adding that the championship has 21 track and field events for men and 19 events for women athletes.
He further said that all 13 affiliated units of PAF would participate in the event, including teams from all three armed forces, all provinces, Wapda, Pakistan Railways, FATA, Islamabad, and Pakistan Police.
Rizvi said that the organisation of national athletic championship in the city would help improve the condition of tartan track at the coaching center. |
