KARACHI: The member countries of the South Asian region have passed a resolution to ask India to come out with a clear stance about holding of the forthcoming South Asian Games which it is supposed to conduct in the next few months.
“In Moscow we discussed the issue of the South Asian Games and through a resolution asked India to tell us in a month whether they could hold the South Asian Games. We told them if they are unable to host the event we will give it to Nepal,” Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Lt General (retd) Syed Arif Hasan told ‘The News’ on Wednesday.
The Indian delegate said that he would intimate authorities back home about the minutes of the meeting.
India is supposed to hold the 12th South Asian Games in New Delhi at the end of this year but it has failed to make a final decision about it which has confused the participating units.
Arif was in Moscow last week for the general body meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
About Pakistan’s wild card entries for Olympics, Arif said that it was yet to be decided how many wild card entries Pakistani athletes would be given and was quick to add that the real picture would come soon. Pakistan has so far qualified for hockey alone. It is expected that Pakistan will be given wild card entries in athletics, swimming and shooting.
