PESHAWAR: Top seed Aqeel Khan reached the quarter-finals of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Open Tennis Championship by defeating Shehzad Khan of PAF in the pre-quarter-final here at Garrison Club Grass Courts on Wednesday.
Aqeel, who recently won the Khyber Open for the 12th time, gave no chance to Shehzad Khan and won the match 6-1, 6-2.
Ahmad Babar also reached the quarter-final stage after recording victory against Irfan Ullah 6-4, 6-4, while Muhammad Abid smashed Inam Ullah 6-3, 6-3.
Shahid Afridi defeated Ahmad Chaudhery 6-2, 6-2, and Usman Ijaz beat Jibran Ul Haq 6-2, 6-1.
Usman Rafique did not face any resistance from Kashan-ul-Haq and won his pre-quarter-final match 6-1, 6-3.
Sana Ullah defeated Israr Gul, an international player, 6-4, 6-4. In the last pre-quarter-final match, Yasir Khan defeated Zakir Ullah 7-5, 6-3.
In the U18 category, Mudasir beat Iftikhar 6-2, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals. Kashsak-ul-Haq, Hasnain Manzoor, Rashid Khan, Ejaz Khan, Nofil Kaleem and Ahmad Babar also reached quarter-finals.
