KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) failed to keep their hopes of finishing at the third spot alive when they were held by Navy to a 1-1 draw in their crucial game of the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League held at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Friday.
With the draw, KESC moved to 51 points from 29 matches, while Navy stretched their points tally to 35 from 29. It was a tough match with both the sides offering great resistance. Navy broke the deadlock when their most consistent scorer Nomi Martin Gill capitalised on a combined move in the 34th minute.
At half time, Navy were leading 1-0. After the breather, KESC played better and were able to bring an equaliser through a pile-driver from Mohammad in the 65th minute. “We missed the third place. Today we squandered a few very good chances,” KESC manager Hassan Baloch told The News after the match.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) have already emerged as champions while Chaman’s Afghan FC have finished second in the league that concludes on December 28. On Saturday (today), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will face Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at the same venue. |
