KARACHI: Young cueist Asjad Iqbal jumped 16 places after winning the recent NBP Ranking Snooker Championship 2012.
According to the latest rankings, issued by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) here on Tuesday, 20-year-old Asjad, hailing from Sargodha, has moved to the second spot while the reigning national Mohammad Asif, of Faisalabad, has retained the top slot despite finishing as the runner-up in the last event. Sultan Mohammad, who had been ranked number two and represented the country in the Asian Snooker Championship earlier this year, moved to number three.
Two-time national champion Mohammad Sajjad slipped to the fourth place from third.
Naveen Kumar Perwani and Abdul Sattar dropped to the fifth and the sixth positions, respectively, while Vishan Gir remained at number seven.
Mohammad Majid, one of the products of the national junior circuit, has also made a giant leap thanks to his stunning performance in the NBP tourney. From 19th he has jumped to the eighth position.
Khurram Hussain Agha, who remained the country’s top ranked cueist for the better part of the last decade, failed to move up from his ninth position.
Mohammad Imran is now at number 10. He was ranked 11th earlier.
Shahid Aftab, another former national champion, got rewarded for his consistent performance in the last tournament and moved from the 21st to the 11th position.
Mohammad Nazir rose from 22 to 12. Sharjeel Mahmood and Sohail Shahzad went down quite a few places due to their below par performance in the NBP tourney. They fell to 13th and 14th positions from eighth and sixth, respectively.
Shehram Changezi, who was given a wild card in the last event, surged to 15 from 39.
Imran Shahzad, who was Pakistan’s top ranked cueist last year, slipped from 13th to 18th position.
Mohammad Yousuf, a former world champion, has recovered from 34th to 19th position because of his fine performance in the NBP tourney.
