KARACHI: Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) is going to host the Asia Cup in October, in which top eight Asian teams will take part.
Honorary Secretary PKF Muhammad Sarwar told ‘The News’ that his federation was to hold this event in Lahore at Punjab Stadium. “The dates and other details are to be decided soon. Iran and India will be among the participating teams,” he added.
The secretary came back on Sunday with his team that lost to Iran in the final of the 3rd Asian Beach Games in Haiyang, China.
When asked about this surprising defeat, he said it was alarming. “Mistakes by our defenders helped Iran take the final lead in the end of the game, and we did not have recovery time,” said Muhammad Sarwar who helped Iran develop their Kabaddi team as the Head Coach some 13 years back.
He further said that they would hold national championship besides training and coaching programme to help players in their shortcomings. “Our coaches are doing best, what we need to do is to make our defending line strong. And for that we are making efforts,” he added.
He said that Iran spent a lot of money on this game. “They have budgets of millions, and that way they managed to beat tough teams like India and Pakistan in important matches,” reasoned the secretary. Before losing to Iran 33-39 in the final, Pakistan defeated India 32-30 in semifinal.
