Pakistan fall in junior squash final

KARACHI: Pakistan lost against the defending champion Egypt in the final of WSF Men’s World Junior Team Championships at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Wednesday.

 

Top seed Egypt retained the title with 2-0 win over second seed Pakistan as Mazen Hesham and then individual champion Marwan El Shorbagy thrashed their Pakistani opponents.

 

Mazen Hesham defeated Syed Ali Mujtaba Bukhari 3-1 with the scores of 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 in 42 minutes, while Marwan El Shorbagy beat Nasir Iqbal 3-0 with the scores of 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 in 38 minutes. This was the fifth time in a row when Egypt and Pakistan faced each other in the final of the championships.

 

Twenty-two teams participated in the tournament.

 

Earlier, India achieved their highest-ever finish in the competitions as they beat England 2-0 to claim the third position.

 

This was the fourth time England ended up in the fourth position in their 16 participations.

 

Hong Kong defeated Japan 2-0 to claim the fifth position, while United States beat Canada 1-1 to attain the seventh position.

 

New Zealand won 2-1 against Kuwait to grab the ninth position and Germany overpowered Brazil 2-1 to take the 11th position.
