Mbeya — THE Deputy Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Philipo Mulugo has underscored the need for district sports officers to effectively play their role in a bid to propel sports development in the country.
Mulugo said without the sports officer involvement in various sports activities, the sector will not attain any significant success. Mulugo made the remarks here on Monday when officially closing the First Division Netball League at the Sokoine Memorial Stadium, where Filbert Bayi Foundation team was crowned the new queens.
He was puzzled not to see any district sports officer at the closing of the event that competed 16 teams saying, it was an ideal place for them to prove their involvement in sports. "Sports will go nowhere if sports officers are not responsible and keep distancing themselves with such important sports events, they have to play their part effectively," he said.
Mulugo went further saying that if the sports officers were falling under his ministry, they would be up for stiff penalty. He commended the Tanzania Amateur Netball Association, CHANETA for their efforts to promote the sports in both continental and the international circles.
Teams that took part in the league were Filbert Bayi, JKT Mbweni , Jeshi Stars, Magereza Morogoro, Polisi , Polisi Dar, Uhamiaji, Hamambe , JKT Ruvu and Polisi Arusha.
