President of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Lt. Gen. (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan has congratulated Mr. Muhammad Shafiq, President, Pakistan Handball Federation over his unanimous election to the prestigious office of the Secretary General of the Asian Handball Federation. “It is a great honour for Pakistan and POA that Mr. Shafiq has been elected to the second highest position in the game of Handball in the continent.

“ Shafiq is an outstanding member of Pakistan’s Olympic Family and has served the cause of Pakistan sports and the Olympic Movement in this country with great distinction. I am positive that the POA as well as the rapidly growing sport of Handball shall benefit tremendously from the experience and dedication of Shafiq.”, said the POA President.

Mr Muhammad Shafiq was elected as the Secretary General of the continental Handball Federation in its recent Congress held at Doha, with 38 Asian nations out out of 44 attending the meeting. Shaikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah President Asian Handball Federation presided over the Congress. Shaikh Ahmad, who is also President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Associations of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), was elected President, Asian Handball Federation unopposed. For Shiekh Ahmed to have asked Shafiq to be on his team speaks volumes of the respect that Shafiq has with the Head of Sports of the Asian Continent as well as the Head of all the National Olympic Associations of the world (ANOC). Not just this but shows the respect he has in the complete Community of Handball.

Shafiq has previously served the AHF as Chairman of the Under-developing Countries Commission from 2004-2009 and also as Chairman, Youth and School Commission from 2009to date. In Pakistan, apart from Handball, he has been very effective in promoting sports as Director Sports, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad since 1990.
