Lahore: Ms. Mahnoor Maqsood, Pakistan’s Young Ambassador for Youth Olympic Games 2014, Nanjing, China was honoured today by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) at an impressive ceremony in a local hotel. President, POA, Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan, HI(M) was Chief Guest on the occasion. The Presidents and Secretaries of National Sports Federations also attended the ceremony.

The President POA formally presented to Ms. Mahnoor Maqsood the Welcome Letter from the IOC President, the IOC Certificate and Road Book on her appointment as Young Ambassador.

Gen. Arif congratulated Ms. Mahnoor Maqsood and Pakistan Swimming Federation for this unique honour.

He said, “Ms. Mahnoor Maqsood was appointed as YOUNG AMBASSADOR from Pakistan after going through her credentials and having online interaction with the IOC. She will be one of the over 100 Young Ambassadors from throughout the member countries of the IOC in the world. “Because the Youth Olympic Games are still quite new, there is a need to ensure that everybody shares the same vision and speaks the same language. The Young Ambassador will have a key role in spreading the Olympic Values and sharing the Youth Olympic Games concept/specificities among the athletes, coaches and the rest of the delegation.”

The Young Ambassador Seminar shall be held from March 25-28, 2014 at Nanjing. It will not only give a surprising and unforgettable Youth Olympic Games experience through its style of diverse culture and appealing activities but would also provide a valuable opportunity to meet people from all over the world and share the fun together.

The 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to be held in Nanjing, China from 16-28 August, 2014. The Young Ambassador will subsequently be part of the Pakistan delegation at the Games proper and shall have the obligation to encourage all athletes to actively participate in cultural and learning opportunities across the Youth Olympic Games.

Simultaneously the Young Ambassador must become a supporter, tutor or role model and invite all delegation athletes to experience the unique atmosphere of the Games, make new friends and acquire many skills which are essential for all elite athletes.

“The POA sincerely hopes that she will give a distinguished performance and show the best of her abilities and bring honour to the country. We wish her every success in her mission and role as Young Ambassador”, said the President POA in his speech on the occasion.
