KARACHI: Sindh Squash Association (SSA) will organise a six-week free coaching camp for junior players at the squash complex located in the premises of National Sports Training and Coaching Center (NSTCC).

Amir Khan, Honorary Secretary SSA, told ‘The News’ that in order to make the most of the Rs250 million complex they have planned a free coaching camp this summer. “The next stage will be to have tournaments here but only after the consent of Pakistan Sports Board and for that we are waiting for an agreement between PSB and Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), which will authorise us to hold activities,” he added.

He said that on March 23 SSA staged a ranking tournament here experimentally, but otherwise they had had only coaching and training camps here since the opening of the complex in February this year.

SSA is also planning to organise an inter-club squash championship in Karachi after Ramadan.

It may be noted here that PSB has opened private membership at the complex to attract players. A number of youngsters registered with SSA are also doing regular practice sessions at the facility. There are around 50 registered players of SSA, but most of them play at various clubs in the city.

The squash complex was opened to public after three years when PSF and PSB reached an understanding. PSF built the complex at a cost of more than Rs250 million inside the premises of NSTCC after mutual understanding between the heads of both institutions but later a dispute for administrative control emerged causing its closure.
