KARACHI: The PSF Squash Complex at PSB National Coaching Centre is to be named after legendary squash player Jahangir Khan in an inauguration ceremony to be held on Sunday (today).

Sources informed ‘The News’ that the newly established complex is to be named as PSF Jahangir Khan Squash Complex. “Senior Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Razi Nawab will be the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony,” said a source.

He further said that renovation was being done there by a team of the Air Force.

This would be one of the best squash facilities available in the town, an official said.

The complex was built at a cost of Rs25 million, but remained closed for two years over a dispute of administrative rights between PSF and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

After an agreement was reached, the facility was opened on February 7 this year, but only for practice sessions.

The complex has four courts, including two glass ones, and capacity for 250 spectators. A well-developed squash complex was badly needed after the demolition of Pakistan’s most prestigious squash facility, the PIA Squash Complex at Kashmir Road.

While the NSTCC complex remained shut, PSF had to bear the expenses of players’ practice at Pak Navy squash courts.
