Tabish, Mohsin shine in table tennis

KARACHI: Junior sensation Tabish Khursheed from Islamia Club and Mohsin Raza from Essa Laboratory have lifted two titles each in the Karachi Table Tennis Championship here at the Islamia Club here on Sunday.

Sisters Ghalia Khursheed and Maleeha Khursheed will face each other in the women’s singles final after winning their semifinals. Tabish from Islamia Club, who was part of the title win in the boys doubles under-18 the other day, also lifted boys singles under-18 title after edging out his rival Salman Salim from Amroha Club 3-0 in the final. The scores remained 11-5, 11-6 and 11-9.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Raza earned two crowns, grabbing titles in the men’s doubles and the mixed doubles. In the men’s doubles final, the pair of Mohsin and Ayaz Leghari defeated Tabish Khursheed and Muzammil 3-1. The score was 9-11, 11-8, 11-4 and 11-5.

Similarly, Mohsin along with his partner Maleeha Khursheed defeated the pair of Salim Ahmad and Qurrat-ul-Ain Zaidi in the mixed doubles final. The score 21-19, 11-3 and 11-8.

In the women’s singles semifinals Pakistan’s top player Ghalia Mohsin of Essa Laboratory defeated Abeera Ali from Sindh Sports Board Complex 11-6, 11-8 and 11-7, while her sister Maleeha Khursheed of Essa Laboratory outgunned Qurrat-ul-Ain Zaidi of SSB 3-2 with 11-8, 10-12,5-11,11-3,11-9.

The women’s doubles title went to Qurrat-ul-Ain and Abeera Ali from SSB who defeated Farah Ilyas and Tayyaba Suleman of Islamia Club 11-8, 11-6 and 12-10.

Tabish Khursheed and his teammate Usman Ahmad qualified for the men’s singles open final after beating their respective opponents Muzammil from Islamia Club and Salman Shahid from Creek Club in the semifinals.

Aahil Shah from Islamia Club and Abeera Ali from SSB beat Salman Salim and Farah Ilyas from Islamia Club to lift the mixed doubles Under-18 title. The score was 11-9, 10-12, 11-8 and 11-6
