IC Tennis gets underway at Karachi Gymkhana

KARACHI: Most of Pakistan’s top tennis players are featuring in the inaugural IC Trophy National Ranking Tennis Championship which got underway here at the Karachi Gymkhana on Thursday.

Hyderabad’s Asif Bachani got off to a flying start in the Rs200,000 tournament when he outplayed Sikander Hayat Khan 6-2, 6-4 in the qualifying round of the men’s singles event.

Kalim Imam, president Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), formally inaugurated the tournament.Other present at the occasion included Khawaja Saeed Hai, Saeed Ahmed, Jamal Mirza and Khalid Rehmani.

The tournament features a number of leading players including Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan, who recently spearheaded Pakistan to a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Lebanon in their Davis Cup opening round match in Beirut.
