Aisam gears up for US Open

KARACHI: Pakistan’s top tennis player, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, is gearing up for the US Open as he will start his almost one-month long playing activity from the Citi Open on July 30.

 

Aisam’s father Ehtisham-ul-Haq told ‘The News’ that his son is currently in the United States and taking part in a commercial tournament. “He will start his month-long playing activity from the Citi Open. And he is happy that his partnership with Rojer Jean has finally clicked,” he added.

 

The Citi Open is a hard court stop at the William HG Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park, Washington DC, and is considered one of the prestigious ATP 500 tournaments in international tennis circuit. The open is starting from July 30.

 

Last year Aisam and his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna lost in the round of 16 of the Citi Open to the pair of Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse 7-6, 6-7, 10-3.

 

The next stop of Aisam-Rojer is ATP 1000 Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada, which is the oldest tournament after Wimbledon and the US Open.

 

In 2011, Aisam-Bopanna pair lost to Mark Bryan and Bob Bryan of United States 3-3 (retired) in the quarterfinals. This year the cup is starting from August 6.

 

Then Aisam-Rojer will play another ATP 1000 tournament named Western and Southern Cup at Cincinnati, US, which is starting from August 12.

 

In the last appearance in the tournament, Aisam with Bopanna lost to Michael Llorda and Neman Zimonjic 3-6, 2-6 in the quarterfinals.

 

The last stop before the US Open for Aisam-Rojer is an ATP 250 tournament, Winston Salem, US, which is starting from August 19. Aisam-Bopanna in the last year’s edition of the tournament lost to the pair of Lukas Dlouhy and Horia Tecas 4-6, 4-6 in round 16.

 

After this the two will play US Open from August 27. Last year Aisam-Bopanna reached the semifinals.
