SOA plans events to mark Olympic Day

KARACHI: Sindh Olympics Association (SOA) has planned a number of events and programmes to remarkably celebrate the Olympic Day in the province.

 

A meeting in this regard was held on June 9 at Sindh Sports Board in which representatives of provincial sports associations affiliated with SOA participated. A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Veena Masood, while Khalid Rehmani, Abdul Hameed, and Saeed Jamal are members of the committee.

 

The committee decided to celebrate the Olympic Day from 21 June to 23. On the first day of the celebrations, an art competition will be held for 200 kids probably at Frere Hall. On the second and third days, a number of events of 15 disciplines will be held in the province at different places. The disciplines include: judo, tennis, karate, volleyball, wushu, athletics, swimming, sepak takra, taekwondo, arm wrestling, weight lifting, body building, ju-jitsu and gymnastics.

 

A seminar on “Olympics values education programme” will also be held in the evening of June 22 at Mc Donald’s, Tariq Road, which is the official partner of International Olympic Committee (IOC) for London Olympics 2012.

 

On June 23, to mark the Olympic Day, a beach marathon will be held for some 500 kids. Some events including beach volleyball and judo will also be held at the beach after marathon, while Mc Donald’s will distribute gifts among the participants.

 

The Olympic Day is celebrated in more than 160 countries every year on June 23 to promote fitness and well-being in addition to Olympic ideals of fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship.
