KARACHI: The executive committee of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has formed a committee to medically examine players in order to resolve the issue of overage guys appearing in national junior events.

Member Executive Committee of PSF and President Balochistan Squash Association (BSA) Sher Ali Kakar told ‘The News’ that they had formed a committee comprising all four secretaries of provincial associations and the secretary PSF.

“The first task for the committee will be soon in the next month. And if any of the players the committee marks for being overage objects to the decision of the committee, they will conduct a medical board for that player,” he added.

The member further said that the committee would do this for all four provinces during their respective national junior events.

It may be noted here that Punjab and KPK associations are accused of including overage players in their teams during national junior events, which sometimes results in a deadlock and embarrassment for the country.

Recently, Punjab and Sindh pulled out of a national junior event held in KPK protesting against the favorable draws and overage players.

Honorary Secretary Punjab Squash Association (PSA) Rana Tariq said that they had started conducting medical examinations for their 100 registered junior players. “We have started this from Thursday and we are conducting medical examinations of 10 players a day. Once it is completed for all our 100 players we will see where we stand. This is important to set things right,” he added.

Sources said that recently in a junior event in KPK a player who must have been 17 participated in the Under-11 category, and the organisers did not disqualify him despite protest by his opponent.

Sources further said that this issue was not limited to national level events as overage junior Pakistani players make Pakistan a laughing stock in the international events too. “Most of the time parents laugh at Pakistani junior players for participating in the categories they don’t look eligible for,” said the sources.

Pakistan squash will face more embarrassment if this issue is not curbed before World Junior Squash Championships 2012 that is scheduled to be held from July 7-18 in Doha, Qatar.
