Top stars to feature in IC Tennis Back To Main

KARACHI: Most of Pakistan’s leading players will feature in the inaugural IC Trophy National Ranking Tennis Championship to be played here at Karachi Gymkhana from February 16-22.

Saeed Ahmed, secretary International Club’s Pakistan chapter, told reporters on Thursday that members of Pakistan’s Davis Cup team including their non-playing captain Rashid Malik have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

“Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan and Abid Mushtaq will be seen in action in the tournament along with their coach. All four of them are a part of Pakistan’s Davis Cup team,” said Ahmed, who was flanked by Pakistan tennis legend Saeed Hai.

Pakistan’s Davis Cup team is currently in Beirut where it will play its Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group-II first-round match against Lebanon starting from Friday (today).

Ahmed said that IC Pakistan is an affiliated unit of Pakistan Tennis Federation and is also directly affiliated to International Club (IC), which is based in London and more than thirty top tennis-playing countries are affiliated to this elite club.

IC is sponsoring the tournament which will carry a prize basket of Rs200,000. The qualifying rounds will be played on February 16-17 following by the main tournament. The events to be contested during the tournament include: men’s singles, ladies singles, juniors U17 singles, boys U14 singles and men’s doubles. Khawaja Masroor is the tournament director while Khalid Rehmani will serve as the tournament referee.
