KARACHI: Aisam-ul-Haq of Pakistan and Alexander Peya of Austria lost to a Spanish pair in the round of 16 of Internazionali BNL d’Italia, Rome, on Thursday.

Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, who are ranked 26th and 18th respectively, defeated Aisam-Peya 7-5, 7-6.

Aisam-Peya were given a bye in the round of 32, but they failed to capitalise on that opportunity and lost to the low-ranked players of Spain.

Aisam tried Alexander Peya of Austria, who is ranked 19th in doubles, in this tournament instead of his original partner Rojer Jean-Julien in the hope of getting much-needed points to be in the London Olympics.

The country is hoping for Aisam-ul-Haq, who is ranked 15th with 4,160 points, to create history by getting a wild card entry in tennis for the London Games.

Aisam will bag only 90 points from this tournament.
