KARACHI: Pakistan’s experienced bodybuilder Aamir Rahim Bux has appealed to the Sindh government for financial support so that he may participate in Mr Asia and Mr Universe bodybuilding competitions to be held next month.

“I need money for featuring in these two championships and I appeal to the Sindh Governor, Chief Minister, Sports Minister and Senator Mustafa Kamal to extend their financial assistance so that I could participate in these events,” Aamir told ‘The News’ after a press conference here at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday.

Aamir, World No7, will leave for Tashkent on May 30 to feature in Mr Asia Bodybuilding Championship to be held there from June 3-5. He will fly to Florida on June 12 to take part in Mr Universe to be conducted from June 15-16.

“I have made reservations for both Tashkent and Florida but have not made any payment. I would be very thankful if any one sponsored me as my main objective is to earn honour for the country,” he said.

Aamir voiced optimism about his chances of extending his best in these back-to back events. “For the last three years, I have been in constant practice and particularly during the last three months I have been undergoing hard training — for eight hours a day,” the former Mr Pakistan said.

He said if no one supported him he would borrow money from friends to participate in these competitions.

Aamir claimed he had been offered American nationality but he refused it for the sake of the country. “I and my family had been offered American nationality but I declined the offer because I love Pakistan and want to earn honours for my beloved country,” he said. Aamir earns his living as an instructor at a gym.
