Sindh, Punjab in football U14 quarters Back To Main

KARACHI: Sindh and Punjab on Monday qualified for the quarter-finals of the National Under-14 Football Championship being held at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.

Sindh confirmed their last eight berth from Group D after beating Peshawar Zone 2-0. Shah Zeb and Muneeer Munna scored goals in the 36th and 58th minutes, respectively.

Sindh had defeated Fasialabad/Sargodha Zone in their opener the other day. Meanwhile, in Group A tie, Punjab, who had crushed Quetta 3-1 in their opener, held Karachi Zone A to a goalless draw to move into the quarter-finals.

The Group D match between Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Faisalabad-Sargodha Zone ended in a 1-1 draw with both sides taking one point each. Osama Pervez of AJK opened the scoring with a nice drive in the 11th minute. But all their efforts to maintain the lead till full time were spoiled after they conceded an own-goal in the dying moments. At the end of the championship, probables for the national Under-14 team will be picked for the preparatory camp for the AFC Under-14 Festival of Football which will be hosted by Pakistan at Islamabad from April 3 to 17.
