The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Pakistan. It was formed in 1948 to oversee the active participation of Pakistan at the Olympiad. Within the Country the POA remains the oldest sport body. It was the premier regulator of sport activities in Pakistan from 1948 until establishment of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in 1962. Lahore, Pakistan — A key milestone for women’s sport was marked with the inauguration of a dedicated boxing ring at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Jail Road, Lahore. Designed exclusively for female athletes, the facility provides a safe and empowering space for training and competition.
Established under the Commonwealth Sport Game Changers Project, the initiative underscores a strong commitment to inclusivity and the growth of women’s sport in Pakistan.
Dr. Sumera Sattar, Director Sports LCWU, welcomed distinguished guests and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to advancing women’s sport through modern facilities.
Mr. Arif Saeed, President, Commonwealth Games Association Pakistan and Pakistan Olympic Association, inaugurated the facility as Chief Guest. Distinguished attendees included Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi, Vice Chancellor LCWU, Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General POA, Lt. Col. (R) Muhammad Nasir Ijaz Tung, President Pakistan Boxing Federation, and Maj. Irfan Younis, Secretary General PBF, along with officials and athletes.
Mr. Arif Saeed termed the initiative a landmark achievement, highlighting its role in strengthening training opportunities for female athletes. He also proposed future initiatives, including Sports for All programs, an international sports conference, and the establishment of a School of Sports at LCWU.
Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi noted that the facility will help develop confident and skilled athletes while promoting gender equality in sport.
The ceremony featured exhibition bouts by women boxers and concluded with the distribution of shields.

Today, 27 bright students from Crescent School System visited the Museum at the Pakistan Olympic Association, where they explored Pakistan’s rich sporting heritage.
The students were also briefed on the role and responsibilities of the POA, along with insights into how the International Olympic Committee leads and promotes the Olympic Movement worldwide.
Engaging with young learners and sharing the values of excellence, friendship, and respect helps shape a stronger, more inspired generation for the future of sport.
