Press Release - General Council Meeting of POA held on 31-03-2019 at Lahore

The General Council of Pakistan Olympic Association held its meeting today at Lahore and following matters have been discussed and decided in the meeting:

        * 33RD NATIONAL GAMES

All aspects of the holding of 33rd National Games allotted to Balochistan Olympic Association were discussed in depth. You will recall that these Games were postponed a number of times for the last many years.  However due to certain logistical and administrative constraints of Balochistan, it was felt by the house that the Games could not be conducted in Quetta this year. Holding of these Games this year is absolutely imperative to enable the Federations to be able to select their teams for 13th South Asian Games to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal in December, 2019. It was therefore decided by the house that the National Games would be shifted to KP in the month of October, 2019. However in order to ensure that Balochistan does not lose its chance to hold the National Games they have been told to inform POA the moment they are ready in all aspects and 34th National Games will automatically be held by them next year. The decision of the house was kindly agreed upon by Balochistan Olympic Association and Mr. Ahmed Raza, Secretary Sports,
Government of Balochistan.

        * 13TH SOUTH ASIAN GAMES NEPAL - 01 TO 10 DECEMBER, 2019

The 13th South Asian Games can bring the youth of neighbouring countries close for harmony and Peace through Sports. The house urged the Government of Pakistan to support the preparations and participation of a comprehensive contingent for these Games.

        * Other unanimous decisions taken in the meeting were Elections of 16 Individual Members and ratification of the proposed POA Election Commission and Election Appellate Tribunal.

The unanimously elected individual members are

        * Ms. Nargis Rahimtoola
        * Ms. Shagufta Malik

The renewed Election Commission of POA is:

The house also agreed to enhance and adopt the Gender Equality, Counter

       -           Competition Manipulation measures and other good governance policies within Federations and Associations.

The merger of Fata Olympic Association into KP Olympic Association has been formally approved following the 25th Amendment to the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
