Press Release: Pakistan Olympic Association Celebrates Olympic Day with Enthusiasm and Unity Back To Main

Olympic Day celebrations in Pakistan saw vibrant activities, where a range of sports events engaged communities in the spirit of the Olympics. These events underscored the importance of physical activity and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect.

Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) celebrated Olympic Day with great fervor at the Lahore College for Women University where large number of athletes, Olympians, and sports enthusiasts participated. The activities at the Olympic Day included Walks, plantations, and quiz for athletes and students. A video message of Mr. Thomas Bach, President, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was shared with the participants, inspiring everyone with his words of encouragement. A short video showcasing the Olympic Day 2022, published by the IOC, was screened, reminding everyone of the global unity fostered through sports. This was followed by an engaging quiz on the Olympic Day and the Paris 2024 Games, adding an interactive and educational element to the event.

Mr. Syed Mohammad Abid Qadri Gillani, President POA welcomed all the participants. Mr. Faisal Ayub Khokhar, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Punjab, interacted with the athletes and students underlining the government's commitment to supporting sports and youth development. Mr. Dylan Gelard, Attaché for Cooperation and Culture from the French Embassy in Pakistan addressed the audience, emphasizing the cultural and cooperative aspects of the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024. The Vice Chancellor of LCWU, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz, delivered a motivating speech, applauding the efforts of the POA and encouraging young athletes to pursue excellence in sports. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by the Secretary General of POA, expressing gratitude to all participants and guests.

Souvenirs were presented to the quiz winners, and Olympians as a token of appreciation for their contribution and participation. The event ended with heartfelt departures, leaving everyone inspired and motivated to uphold the Olympic spirit.
