Pakistan to feature in 3rd Asian Beach Games Back To Main

KARACHI: Pakistan will feature in the 3rd Asian Beach Games in handball, kabaddi and wind-surfing, a top official of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) told ‘The News’ on Friday.
“After consultation with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and the national sports federations, it has been decided that Pakistan will participate in the Asian Beach Games in handball, kabaddi and wind surfing, the disciplines in which the country is capable to win medals,” PSB spokesman Azam Dar said.
The 3rd Asian Beach Games will be held in the Chinese city of Haiyang from June 16 to 22. The camp for handball will be held in Faisalabad. Kabaddi and wind-surfing athletes will start their training in Karachi later this month.
Around Rs6.1 million has been allocated for the assignment. In the first Asian Beach Games held in Bali (Indonesia) in October 2008, Pakistan lifted seven medals. Wrestlers won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. The country also achieved one gold medal in handball, one silver in kabaddi and one bronze in bodybuilding.
In the 2nd Asian Beach Games held in Muscat (Oman) in December 2010, Pakistan claimed one silver medal each in handball and kabaddi, two silver in tent-pegging and one bronze medal in sailing.
