KARACHI: Army’s boxers dominated the semifinals stage of the National Boxing Championship at the Punjab College, Lahore, on Thursday.
Six boxers from Army qualified for the finals while five from Pakistan Air Force (PAF), four from WAPDA, three from Navy and one each from Police and Higher Education Commission (HEC) were able to make it to the finals which will be conducted on Friday (today).
The country’s top boxers Mohammad Waseem, Aamir Khan, Mohib Bacha, Qadir Khan, Niamatullah, experienced Faisal Karim, Mir Waiz Khan, Nadir Khan and Dur Mohammad all cruised into the finals.
Semifinals: 49kg: Mohib Bacha (Police) bt Shehroz (Navy), Mohammad Nouman (Army) bt Naqeebullah (WAPDA); 52kg: Abdul Waheed (PAF) bt Attaullah (Police), Mohammad Waseem (WAPDA) bt Halaar Qambrani (HEC); 56kg: Samiullah (Navy) bt Syed Israr (Sindh), Niamatullah (PAF) bt Khawar Ali (WAPDA)
60kg: Qadir Khan (WAPDA) bt Mohammad Ali (Police), Nawaz Dad (Army) bt Aamir (Navy), 64kg: Faisal Karim (Army) bt Saadullah (Balochistan), Adnan Hasan (PAF) bt Mohamamd Ali (Navy); 69kg: Arshad Hussain (PAF) bt Mohammad Afzal (Police), Aamir Khan (WAPDA) bt Tanvir Ahmad (Navy); 75kg: Mirza Azam (PAF) bt Zulqarnain (HEC), Dur Mohamamd (Navy) bt Atif Mehmood (Army), 81kg: Nadir Khan (Navy) bt Asadullah (Balochistan), Ahmad Ali (Army) bt Mehmoodul Hasan (PAF) 91kg: Moiz Khan (HEC) bt Amir Hamza (Rangers), Riaz Ali (Army) bt Qamar Amin (PAF).
