KARACHI: Mohammad Rasool hit the lone goal to guide Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to a 1-0 win over Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in their match of the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League held at the Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad, on Wednesday.
Rasool scored the winner in the 86th minute. The Chitral-born striker pushed his goal tally in the season to 17, five goals short of the leading scorer Jadeed Khan Pathan from Chaman’s Afghan FC, who has 22 strikes, including six against Police. With the victory, KESC jumped to the fifth spot with 50 points. They are to play against Navy and KRL on December 23 and 26.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) have already emerged as champions as they have 73 points and are to play two more matches. This is the second time that KRL have become champions of the top league. Last time they had won the title in 2009.
With the feat they have also qualified for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup to be held next year at a venue yet to be decided. Police and Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) have been relegated to the PFF League Second Division. They will be replaced by Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and Lahore’s Wohaib FC in the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League in 2012.
Both ZTBL and Wohaib Club got promoted to the prime league after winning their respective departmental and club phases of the PFF League Second Division. On Thursday (today), a tough match will be held between the two former champions WAPDA and Army, both of whom are fighting for the second spot.
