POA celebrating Olympic Day Back To Main

The Olympic Day was organised under the auspices of the Pakistan Olympic Association by the Sindh Olympic Association in close cooperation with the Education and Culture Committee and OVEP with Mrs Veena Masud as the Chief Coordinator. The events were planned to run over a weeks time and different activities and programmes which promote and highlight the Olympic Values were the main themes and area of focus.

 

 June 21     Art Competition

An Art Competition was held at the Frere Hall, an internationally renowned Heritage National Art Gallery. Over 80 young artists from all sections of society participated in the event. Participation certificates and commemorative T shirts were awarded to all the contestants. Renowned art experts were invited to judge the competition and prizes were presented to the top 3 paintings in each age-group category. The event was televised and good press coverage was given.

  

 

June 22     Olympic Seminar

 

An Olympic seminar for over 100 participants, sponsored by McDonalds Pakistan, was held  to enlighten and propagate Olympism and Olympic Values. Ex Olympians was also guest speakers at the event. Participation certificates, souvenirs were presented to all the participants.



  • June 23 - Olympic Day Run. The Event will be conducted at Sea View, over 300 participants are expected to participate, runners, cyclists with some para-olympians and special Olympic athletes will also participate in the event which will culminate at the McDonalds Restaurant where children will play alongside national athletes in Beach Volley Ball, Beach Wrestling, Martial Arts and Chess. Prizes will be  awarded to winners.

 

  • June 21 – 26 - Sports Events. Over 15 disciplines including volleyball, tennis, swimming,  weightlifting, boxing, 5 different forms of martial arts, table tennis, hockey, football, handball and wrestling have arranged competitions and demonstrations in venues all over the city.

 

  • June 27 - TV Talk Show. The Celebrations will culminate with a television show with the President of the Pakistan Olympic Association talking about Olympic values.

 

All events for the Olympic Day Programme are expected to have extensive television, radio and print media coverage. Banners have been posted in places all over the city, Pictures and movies of the event will be posted as they come in.
