Aqeel, Yasir in IC Trophy final Back To Main

KARACHI: Aqeel Khan defeated Jalil Khan while Yasir Khan brushed aside Nomi Qamer in the semifinals of IC Trophy National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Tuesday at Karachi Gymkhana.

Ranked No 1 in the national circuit, Aqeel defeated his younger sibling Jalil Khan 6-4, 6-4 to confirm his presence in the final of men’s singles event. Aqeel’s another brother Yasir Khan beat Nomi Qamer after the latter decided to retire in the second set. Yasir was leading the match 6-2, 3-0.

Meanwhile, Saba Aziz overcame Maheen Dada 7-5, 6-2 to enter into ladies singles final where she will face Sara Mansoor, who defeated Iman Qureshi 6-4, 7-5. Nafil Kalim defeated Jalaluddin Baber 6-1, 6-4, while Dawar Rehan thrashed Mohammad Raza Sawani 6-2, 6-1 to secure place in U14 singles summit clash.

Semifinal results:

Men’s singles: Aqeel Khan bt Jalil Khan 6-4, 6-4; Yasir Khan bt Nomi Qamer 6-2, 3-0 (Retired).

Ladies singles: Saba Aziz bt Maheen Dada 7-5, 6-2; Sara Mansoor bt Iman Qureshi 6-4, 7-5.

U14 singles: Nafil Kalim bt Jalaluddin Baber 6-1, 6-4; Dawar Rehan bt M Raza Sawani 6-2, 6-1.
