KARACHI: President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Kaleem Imam said on Sunday that they were trying to have next Davis Cup tie in Pakistan despite security issues.

“Our endeavours are bearing fruits as we have got an informal approval for holding an international junior tennis event later this year, and that prompted us to have a go with all out efforts to get next Davis Cup tie on Pakistani soil,” said the President PTF while talking to this scribe.

“Pakistan’s Davis Cup ranking has become far better — from 53 to 37. That will help us host the tie,” he claimed, adding that Aisam’s international performances also contributed to Pakistan’s ranking rise.

However, it may be added here that as of April 9 Pakistan’s Davis Cup ranking was 53 with 250 points in Asia/Oceania Zone Group II. To a question, ITF communication department told ‘The News’ “the Davis Cup rankings are issued after every World Group round so the next ones will be available on 17 September.” The President PTF said that they would finalise the team in November for next Davis Cup tie.
